Behind the Mask is a lovely historical romantic suspense book by Faye Hall. When a family member drags Isobel Porter and Duncan Buchanan to the masquerade ball, they instantly fall for each other. However, when their mothers find out about their blooming romance, they do everything to destroy it. After several years of separation, Isobel Porter, now the owner of her Aunt’s property, Duncan Buchanan, turns up asking for work. Will their love affair be reignited, or will they flounder due to many years away from each other? The readers of Behind the Mask will continue to follow Isobel Porter and Duncan Buchanan to discover what happens.
I love Faye Hall’s books. She always takes me on a journey around rural Queensland in the eighteenth century and ensures that I engage with her stories and characters. I also enjoy that Faye Hall makes her female characters as vital as her male characters, which helps me engage with both characters. This book kept up my tradition with Faye Hall books. I love Faye Hall’s portrayal of her characters and the way they interact with each other. Behind the Mask is well-written and researched. I like Faye Hall’s description of the settings of Behind the Mask, which allowed me to imagine being part of the book’s plot.
The reader of Behind the Mask will understand the consequences of jealousy and greed on everyone involved. The reader will also learn about running a property in Bowen during the eighteenth century.
I recommend this book.
